Once you have decided that the body modification you want is to have a tattoo done then you will need to make sure that you pick a good and professional tattoo artist who will do a good and professional job. A good tattoo artist will also make sure that all proper safety precautions are in place before and during the operation.
But what happens when after you leave the tattoo parlor? Any body modification you have completed needs to be looked after to avoid the threat of infection and aid the healing process. Of course it helps to visit a good quality tattoo artist who will take the necessary hygiene precautions before commencing the tattoo. Of course you are the customer the responsibility to make sure that the tattoo artist takes the necessary hygiene precautions. If you are not happy with the steps being taken or the cleanliness of the tattoo parlor then voice your concerns to the tattoo artist, as there is no point in complaining afterwards if you suffer illness when you were not happy with the hygiene in the tattoo parlor.

Afterwards you should make sure the area around the tattoo is kept clean and sterile whilst it heals, cleaning should be done with soap and water or your tattoo artist will be able to recommend a good tattoo ointment.
However it is important not to use water too much when rinsing as this may damage the inks used in the tattoo or it may disturb the scabs before they have the chance to drop off naturally. It is not advisable to expose your tattoo to too much sunlight as this can weaken the quality of the tattoo pigments and it may need redoing at a later date.
